Katherine M. King joined Soka University of America, Calabasas in April 1991 as Office Manager. She assumed the position of Human Resources Manager for SUA, Calabasas in 1994 and became Human Resources Manager for SUA, Aliso Viejo in 1995. She was promoted to Director of Human Resources in July 2001. Her responsibilities include the management of all human resources and payroll functions for the university.
Prior to joining SUA, King was an Accountant and Executive Assistant for the SBD Group, Inc. She also worked as a Data Communications Clerk with Avco Financial Services.
King holds a BS in Business and Management from the University of Redlands. She is also a graduate of the Japanese Language Institute at Soka University of Japan. King is certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) by the Human Resource Certification Institute, the credentialing body for human resource professionals. King completed the Advanced Program in Human Resources Management at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. King has also earned the HR Generalist Certificate and the Diversity Management Certificate from the Society of Human Resource Management, the Advanced Certificate in Employment Law from the Institute for Applied Management and Law and the Certificate in Internal Investigations from the Council on Education and Management and The George Washington University.
King is a member of the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the American Payroll Association (APA).
King and her husband, Jimmy, reside in Mission Viejo.
