Application for admission to the MA program is evaluated on the basis of the following documents submitted by the applicant:
1. Admission Application & Non-Refundable Fee
2. Official college/university transcript(s)
3. Two letters of recommendation
4. Personal statement – an autobiographical essay reflecting the student’s commitment to education and to educational leadership in particular
5. Writing sample – academic paper or thesis
6. GRE score
7. TOEFL score (non-native speakers of English only)
The student seeking admission to the MA program is expected to have completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent of an undergraduate level education (normally 16 years of pre- and postsecondary education) from a foreign institution.
To be considered for admission to the Graduate School, each applicant must complete the Graduate School Application. The following minimum requirements must be met for a student to be considered for admission:
1. Bachelor’s degree: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or the equivalent of an undergraduate level education (normally 16 years of pre- and post-secondary education) from a foreign institution.
2. GPA: A minimum GPA of 3.0 or a B average on a 4-point scale or a minimum average of 80 points on a scale of 100.
3. GRE: An official report of scores of the Graduate Record Examination general test, taken within the past five years, and sent directly to SUA by the Educational Testing Service, is required as an indication of the level of general learning. The GRE school code is 4720.
4. TOEFL: The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all applicants whose native language is not English. A minimum score of 100 on the TOEFL iBT is required for non-native speakers of English only. The TOEFL school code is 4720.
The Graduate School Faculty Admission Committee will review applications to the program. Applicants will be admitted to the program based on the following considerations:
- Ability to complete a rigorous program of academic study successfully, as evidenced by successful completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education with a satisfactory, above-average GPA, demonstration of suitable quantitative and writing skills, and letters of recommendations
- Strong writing skills demonstrated through the successful completion of an appropriate writing course during the undergraduate experience
- Clear professional and scholarly goals in keeping with the mission of the program
- Strong evidence of the ability to work cooperatively, influence group opinion, and facilitate task completion
