Soka University of America (SUA) seeks applicants for an Open Rank position in Comparative Politics and International Relations with specialization in the Asia Pacific region. The standard full-time faculty teaching load is five courses per year; two courses per semester and one short (three-week) intersession course (August or January).
Soka University of America is a selective four-year institution offering a challenging program in the liberal arts with a focus on the Pacific Rim. The university is committed to a vision of an integrated inter- or multidisciplinary approach to education. The university aims to foster close intellectual relations between faculty members and students by encouraging faculty mentorship. This is achieved through small class sizes and faculty supervision of the senior thesis (capstone). An appreciation of the centrality of peace, global citizenship, freedom and human rights provides the founding impetus for the university and its mission. All faculty members are expected to teach one or more courses intended to serve these purposes. Applicants for this position will also be expected to offer courses in International Relations and U.S. Foreign Policy on a regular basis within an agreed four-year rotation.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in an appropriate area, yet be versatile enough to teach courses outside his/her areas of specialization, and have demonstrated excellence in teaching and research. Applicants for the position of Associate or Full Professor are expected to possess broad teaching experience, a sustained commitment to scholarship, and a record of professional accomplishment appropriate to their rank.

Salary will be competitive and commensurate with rank and experience. All regular faculty members are eligible for full medical, dental and retirement benefits.
