ESL Instructor

Contract dates: August 1, 2012 ‑ July 31, 2013 (annually renewable)

Programs: The SUA English Language Programs offer intermediate to advanced level ESL programs of various length and intensity.

Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to the following:  1) classroom instruction (as many as 20 hours per regular work week), 2) hosting office hours, 3) keeping daily records related to attendance & grades, 4) promotion and realization of the university mission and program objectives, 5) participation in curriculum development and assessment related to teaching and curriculum effectiveness and student progress, 6) planning educational field trips and activities, escorting students on field trips, 7) planning and facilitation of program orientations and other activities, 8) participating in and contributing to ELP faculty enhancement activities, 9) possible mentoring of SUA graduate school practicum teachers and 10) other work-related duties, assignments and projects, as assigned by the Director of the English Language Programs.  Occasional weekend and evening work may also be necessary.

Classes are usually scheduled between the hours of 8:30am and 2:45pm.  The faculty member filling this position must minimally be present on campus 8:30 a.m. ‑ 4:30 p.m., 4 days a week (or a 5-day week with two ½ days off). 

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have high-level English proficiency, an MA in TESOL or closely related field, and 3 years of full‑time teaching experience in ESL/EFL. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching overseas and expertise in the following area(s): Composition, Grammar, Reading, Academic Speaking and Listening, Vocabulary, English for Academic Purposes and Peace Education.

Compensation and Benefits : $43,000.00-$54.000.00 (depending upon experience and qualifications). This position is eligible for full medical, dental and retirement benefits.

Location:  Aliso Viejo, California, about 1 hour south of LAX and 1 hour north of San Diego; about 20 minutes from beaches, beautiful & natural surroundings
