Contract dates: June 1, 2010 ‑ July 29, 2010 (approximately 2 months). SUA will also compensate the instructor for up to five hours of preparation time (at office hour rate) on May 31, 2010; however, the instructor will need to work on campus in Ike-104 and complete the hours between 8:30am and 4:30pm and turn in projects to qualify. There will be an opportunity to participate in certain academic orientation activities at the office hour rate as well. The first day of classes for this position is Friday, June 4th, 2010, and the last regular class will be on Friday, July 23rd, 2010. Completion Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, July 29th, 2010. Completion Ceremony participation is paid at the office hour rate.
Programs: The SUA English Language Programs offer intermediate to advanced level ESL programs of various length and intensity.
Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to the following: 1) classroom instruction related to two 90-minute periods per week: A) Academic Listening and B) American Studies, 2) office hours with students - two hours per week, 3) contributing to faculty meetings (if needed), 4) developing and turning in a syllabus for each course taught (based on official course descriptions), 5) keeping daily records related to attendance and grades, 6) facilitating and participating in completion ceremony activities, and 7) other work-related duties as assigned. In general, classes for this assignment have been scheduled between the hours of 8:30am and 12pm on Fridays. If a class is missed due to the absence of an instructor, arrangements will be made to make up the missed class in the afternoon or evening. Evening or late afternoon classes may be arranged, from time to time, due to a field trip or special English Language Program scheduling etc. It is also possible that one or more classes will be cancelled and due to field trips.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have native or native‑like proficiency in English, an MA (minimum) in TESOL or closely related field, and 3 years of full‑time teaching experience in ESL/EFL. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching overseas and expertise in the following area(s): Composition, Grammar, Peace Education, Conversational English, English for Academic Purposes, and Computer Assisted Language Learning.
Compensation: $40.00-$44.00 per hour for classroom instruction (depending upon experience and qualifications); $15.00 for office hours and non-classroom instruction activities.
