How to Apply for Financial Aid

The process below outlines how to apply for financial aid as an international student.   If you are a US citizen or a US permanent resident, you must apply for financial aid as a domestic student.

Application for financial aid is completed through a series of steps. Each step must be completed before the next can be started. The application links below will open and instruction documents will be available on January 1st of each year.

STEP 1: Complete the Financial Aid Application for International Students

 Financial Aid Application

You are encouraged to complete the financial aid application by February 15th in order to receive an "Estimated Financial Aid Offer" Letter with Admission decision in March.

You may complete this application even before your parents file their taxes. Estimate your annual family income based on last year’s taxes. You will have an opportunity to update this information during the verification process.

Submit your application no later than March 2nd to be considered for priority funding. If you submit your application after the deadline, you may only qualify for Soka loans.

STEP 2: Submit Supporting documentation

Verification documents must be submitted by all international students. (These include Income/tax document, bank statements, etc.)

Any required documentation will be listed on your Learn Account in your “To Do” List. To access your Learn account, visit

STEP 3: Accept aid online at your Soka Account

Learn Account

You will be able to view your financial aid awards after all requested verification documents have been reviewed. An email notification will be sent for you in order to accept/decline your financial aid online.

If you have never had a Soka Loan, you will need to complete step 4.  If you have already filled out a Master Promissory Note for any Soka Loan, you will not need to repeat this step.

STEP 4: Complete application for your Soka Loan that you have been offered by July 1st

              Soka Loan

Once you have completed your Soka Loan application, you will be contacted by the Office of Financial Aid with instructions on completing your Master Promissory Note (MPN), Entrance Counseling, and Self-Certification Form which will finalize your loan.

The Financial Aid Office maintains the right to request additional documentation such as, but not limited to, income documents, non-taxable income certification, and verification of non-filing status, bank/investments, household size and number in college.
