How to Apply for Financial Aid
The process below outlines how to apply for financial aid as an international student. If you have US citizenship, you must apply for financial aid as a domestic student.
Application for financial aid is completed through a series of steps. Each step must be complete before the next can be started. The application links below will open and instruction documents will be available on November 15th 2012.
STEP 1: Complete an international student |
New students should turn in the financial aid application by February 15th 2013. |
You may complete this application even before your parents file their taxes. Estimate your annual family income based on last year’s taxes. You will have an opportunity to update this information during the verification process. |
You must submit this application no later than March 2nd 2012 to be considered for financial aid. If you submit your financial aid application after the deadline, you may not be eligible to receive some forms of aid. |
STEP 2: Submit verification form and supporting documentation |
The Verification Form must be completed by all students this year. |
Your required documentation will be listed on your Learn Account on your “To Do” List |
STEP 3: Accept aid online at your Soka Account |
You will be able to start accepting aid once you have been issued your final financial aid award after verification is complete. You will be notified when you are able to begin accepting aid via email. |
If you have never had a Soka, Access or Soka Parent Loan, you will need to complete step 4. If you have already filled out a Master Promissory Note for a Loan, you will not need to repeat this step. |
STEP 4: Complete lending paperwork if you have been awarded and have chosen to accept any Soka University of America Loans offered to you or your parents by July 1st 2012 |
If this is your first year applying for financial aid, you must complete a lending application. Applications will be emailed to all new students who are eligible for student loans. |
You will only need to apply once during your time at Soka. |
The Financial Aid Office maintains the right to request additional documentation such as, but not limited to, income verification, non-taxable income certification, verification of non-filing status, bank/investments, verification of household size and number in college.
