ALISO VIEJO CAMPUS - FAST FACTS

  • Private, four-year liberal arts college opening Fall 2001 to first 100 freshmen students
  • Located on 103-acres overlooking the 4000-acre Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park in south Aliso Viejo
  • 9:1 student/faculty ratio (5:1 ratio the first year)
  • Eastern and Western perspectives taught across the curriculum
  • Small, seminar-style classes
  • Open to top students (typically in the top 15% of high school graduating class) of all nationalities and beliefs
  • Majority of students expected to be from the United States, with a strong representation from other Pacific Rim nations
  • Planned to grow to about 1200 undergraduates and graduate students at completion
  • BA in Liberal Arts offered initially with emphasis areas in Humanities; International Studies; and Self, Culture and Society
  • Unique Core Curriculum and Learning Clusters
  • Special emphasis on foreign language and culture
  • Required semester of internship/study abroad

  • Tuition for the Fall 2001 school year will be $16,500. Room and board will be $7,500.

  • Applications now being accepted. Early Admission Deadline October 15, 2000. Regular Admission Deadline January 15, 2000.
  • 18 buildings under construction (first phase of 700,000 sq. feet) will be completed by end of 2000
  • Campus will be dedicated on May 3, 2001
  • Additional 500,000 sq. feet of construction planned for the future, including additional academic buildings, residence halls, a music hall and fine arts facility, research institutes and a 2000-seat performing arts center
  • Founded by Daisaku Ikeda, president of Soka Gakkai International, a lay Buddhist organization dedicated to peace, culture and education with members in 156 countries.
