ORANGE COUNTY'S TWO NEWEST PRIVATE SCHOOLS SHARE SMALL CLASSES...AND OAK TREES!
NEW SOKA UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA, ALISO VIEJO DONATES TREES TO NEW SAGE HILL SCHOOL (HIGH SCHOOL) IN NEWPORT BEACH

Who: Sage Hill School - the newest independent, non-parochial, non-profit secondary school for all of Orange County - provides bright, motivated, and diverse students with an academically rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum that is complemented by comprehensive programs in athletics and the arts. Through small classes and a dynamic and inclusive school community, the faculty will instill in our students a love of knowledge and the ability to use that knowledge productively, courageously and compassionately throughout their lives.

Soka University, Aliso Viejo - a private, non-profit four-year liberal arts college opening fall 2001 with a 5:1 student/faculty ratio (changing to 9:1 as the college grows). www.soka.edu What: A tree planting on the new campus of Sage Hill School (opening fall 2000) to commemorate the donation of trees to Sage Hill by Soka University, Aliso Viejo (opening fall 2001). Student representatives from each school will participate along with Clint Wilkins, Head of Sage Hill School; and Tom Harkenrider, Chief of Operations for Soka University.

Why: Mission Viejo Company collected acorns from native Live Oak trees in Aliso Viejo in order to preserve gene pools and propagate native species for xeriscape (low water usage) landscaping. As the trees grew, MVC gave hundreds of baby oak trees to Soka University, Aliso Viejo. Soka University planted what it could use, and is sharing 400 others with Sage Hill School to add a wonderful native landscape to the Sage Hill School campus.
