SOKA UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA, ALISO VIEJO MAKES PRESENTATION AT SOCIETY OF COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY PLANNERS CONFERENCE.
Aliso Viejo, CA -- About 200 planners from the Society of College and University Planners (SCUP) got up early during their conference in Vancouver in order to attend Soka University of America's 8:00 a.m. presentation on the new Aliso Viejo campus.
Trudis Heinecke, President of SCUP and Director of Long Range Planning for the University of California, praised the 90-minute SUA session as "the best SCUP presentation I've ever seen." She suggested that SUA make an annual update at the national conference - and recommended that a tour of the new campus be a highlight of the 2002 national conference which will be in San Diego.
The presentation on Soka University of America, Aliso Viejo was jointly presented by Eric Hauber, Ph.D., SUA's Vice President for Academic Affairs; Steve Davis, AIA, Project Manager from Summit Architects, Inc; Ira Fink, Ph.D., FAIA, President of Ira Fink and Associates, Inc. (SUA's programmer); and Jean Gath with Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates.
The presentation was extremely well received by the conference attendees, who represented major colleges and universities from the United States, Canada and other parts of the Pacific Rim. 88% of the attendees gave the SUA team the highest possible score as an "effective presentation".
A representative from a new university in Malaysia that is just beginning its planning phase was so impressed by Soka University of America's plans that he asked if he could bring his planning team to California to learn more from SUA.
The combined presentation featuring a Power Point slide show and a computer animation of a campus walk-through was described as "brilliant" by Lisa Sullivan, a delegate from Stanford University. Other comments received from attendees included "fascinating project and excellent graphic presentation," "insightful and entertaining," and "A small book on this would be a SCUP best seller!"
The SUA team was pleased that the new campus philosophy and planning process was so well received by the top college planners from around the Pacific Rim. They look forward to returning to the national SCUP conference next year in Atlanta to present the update that has already been requested by this prestigious organization.
