Inaugural Acoustic Strings Festival at Soka Performing Arts Center Features Award-Winning Musicians Playing Guitar, Violin, Timple


Aliso Viejo, CA – The Acoustic Strings Festival at Soka Performing Arts Center’s Black Box Theatre features guitarist Kaki King, guitarist Diego Figuerido, violinist Tessa Lark, folk/Americana duo Bettman & Halpin, and timple player Germán López on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Festival tickets are $60 for adults; $48 for students, seniors, and active military families; and $45 each for groups of 10 or more. This day-long festival features outstanding musicians performing an array of genres on various string instruments. Artists will play individually and then unite at the end of the evening. Vendors will be selling food on the patio throughout the day.

Hailed by Rolling Stone as “a genre unto herself,” guitarist Kaki King has released six albums, performed with such icons as Foo Fighters and Timbaland, and contributed to a variety of soundtracks including Golden Globe-nominated work on Sean Penn’s Into The Wild.

Classical guitarist Diego Figueiredo fuses jazz, bossa nova, and classical music with his unique interpretations, technique, and emotion. Figueiredo has performed in more than 60 countries around the world and is the winner of competitions such as the Montreux Jazz Competition and the VISA Prize. He was previously seen at Soka as part of International Guitar Night.

Violinist Tessa Lark is praised consistently for her astounding range of sounds, technical agility, captivating interpretations, and multi-genre programming and performance. Lark is a recipient of a 2016 Avery Fisher Career Grant, Silver Medalist in the 9th Quadrennial International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, and winner of the 2012 Naumburg International Violin Competition.

Award-winning duo Bettman & Halpin have been touring as a duo since 2008, performing original, toe-tapping, and heartfelt Americana and folk music. Stephanie Bettman is an accomplished writer, singer, and fiddler as well as a former actress and trapeze artist. Luke Halpin is a renowned master of guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and banjo and has shared stages with the likes of Merle Haggard and the Steve Miller Band.

Germán López is a timple player from Gran Canaria who blends the ancient traditions of the Canary Islands with his musical virtuosity. López has collaborated with the symphony orchestra of Gran Canaria and performed at festivals such as WOMAD, Circuits INJUVE, and Expozaragoza.
