Aliso Viejo, CA – Americus Brass Band: Top Brass is a seventeen-piece salute to the services performing the rousing music and songs from a century of American military band tradition at Soka Performing Arts Center on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. Single tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for children. The Americus Brass Band, under the direction of Richard Birkemeier, performs America’s best brass band music from the past, on the authentic instruments of the times. From Civil War quicksteps and Sousa marches to James Reese Europe’s World War I ragtime and Glenn Miller’s swing, experience music that inspired the troops and the public. Americus Brass Band opens Top Brass with instruments from 150 years ago, then progressively adds more modern brass and woodwinds to the mix, ending with a patriotic celebration of our country just in time for Independence Day.

Known for their expert musicianship and mastery of the antique brass instruments, the band members tour nationally, performing in concert halls, festivals, and special events. The band’s film and TV credits include on-screen appearances and/or soundtrack recordings for Disney’s Hidalgo, the Oscar-winning movie Glory, Gettysburg, North and South (TV miniseries), The Wild West (TV miniseries), and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. This season, the Americus Brass Band expands its concert repertoire, from the Civil War and American cowboy west music to the more recent music performed by the American military bands of the last century.
