Decker, praised for her “pure vocal gold,” will showcase her rich, shimmering mezzo voice in a performance of three of Mahler’s exquisite Rückert-Lieder. Morimoto, the prodigious young pianist from Kyoto, Japan, known for his technical brilliance and profound emotional connection with audiences, will offer a powerful interpretation of Brahms’ monumental Second Piano Concerto. The program opens with the West Coast premiere of a work by Dunn’s mentor, Sir Rodney Bennett whose brilliant Partita (1995) is a dazzling fusion of classical and contemporary music.
