It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ustad Zakir Hussain, a true maestro who redefined the art of tabla, transcending genres and connecting Indian classical music with audiences across the globe. His rhythms spoke a universal language, touching hearts and bridging cultures. Throughout his life, Ustad Zakir Hussain was not only a brilliant performer but also a humble teacher, dedicated to mentoring younger generations and fostering a love for music.

Soka Performing Arts Center has had the distinct honor of presenting Zakir Hussain multiple times in recent years, where his spellbinding performances captivated audiences and created unforgettable, soul-stirring experiences. His unparalleled mastery and humble artistry will forever remain a cherished chapter of our performing arts center.

In a statement, his family shared: ‘His prolific work as a teacher, mentor, and educator has left an indelible mark on countless musicians. He hoped to inspire the next generation to reach even greater heights. He leaves behind an unparalleled legacy as a cultural ambassador and one of the greatest musicians of all time.’

This Masters Of Percussion concert on March 22, 2025 will likely become a special event honoring the memory of Ustad Zakir Hussain. Please bear with us as we work out the details in the next few weeks.

Ticket holders will be notified by email as soon as details are finalized and have several options:

• Keep your original tickets and seating locations for the new event. No action is required.
• Request an account credit or refund by emailing tickets@soka.edu .
• Email should be sent from the ticket purchaser with the subject “Zakir Hussain’s Masters Of Percussion – Account Credit or Refund”.
• Account credits and refunds will be processed starting on January 6, 2025.
