"Fixing on a Horizon" by Cynthia Ona Innis
Using paint and bleach on cotton, canvas, nylon, and silver lamé fabric, Innis’ work in “Fixing on a Horizon” explores the shifting light in the sky and its interplay with coastal landscapes and varying weather patterns. She approaches abstraction with a distinct physicality, pouring pigments directly onto fabrics that are cut into strips and reassembled, mimicking the kinetic energy of natural processes like erosion and plate tectonics. The paintings are often constructed from discontinuous bands of fabric, stitched and painted together creating a tactile surface that is both fragmented and cohesive in tension. Rooted in the artist’s memories of sailing the Pacific and taking road trips across California, these works depict nuanced conversations between the materials, the techniques, and the natural environment.

The “Fixing on a Horizon” exhibit will be located on the 1st floor of Founders Gallery.

“Lipstick/Waterline” by Don Ryan
presents two interconnected bodies of work in which Ryan integrates elements cast in resin with wheel-thrown, coil-built, and 3D printed ceramic forms. These assemblages aim to translate the ephemeral – such as the artist’s powerful connection to the ocean and the indelible imprint Southern California has made on his life – into tangible forms. The interplay of materials and processes and the layering of color and form all contribute to a narrative that is both personally and culturally resonant.

The “Lipstick/Waterline” exhibit will be located on the 2nd floor of Founders Gallery.
