Welcome to our interdisciplinary "Listening to Ballona" Event that explores how nature and humanity might coexist more peacefully, sustainably, and creatively in the future. Ballona is the last remnant of Los Angeles' once vast wetlands, now a 600-acre degraded reserve. Its complex history highlights the need for coexisting with nature in urban spaces, where ecological restoration must also restore our relationship with nature. This event features four sessions, followed by an immersive long-duration listening experience by sound artist Daniel Rothman, whose recordings from the Ballona Freshwater Marsh bring to life its nonhuman voices.

Time: 9:00 am-5:00 pm for the Symposium and 24hrs for the Sound Installation (midnight to midnight)
Location: SUA's Athenaeum & Small Conference Center (SUA Parking Lot E)
View Event Website for the full schedule and additional information.

This event is free and open to the public - and we welcome visitors to the Sound Installation throughout the day, including early morning and late evening hours. But please register and help us plan for set up, lunch, and the reception. Thank you!
