Soka provides opportunities for students to understand their values, develop their strengths, and enhance their leadership capacity. Through this process, students find their passion and develop life skills that they can use to be leaders within the university, in our communities, and beyond.

Leadership Speaker Series
Every spring semester, the Awakening to Leadership Series brings notable speakers, advocates, artists, and other inspiring individuals to campus. These talks are designed to cultivate discussion on relevant topics while bringing new insight and understanding to the many paths of leadership.

Leadership Opportunities
Student Government
The Student Leaders Assembly (SLA) is the representative body that supports and coordinates activities and opportunities to improve the student body’s experience. SLA is comprised of the Executive Council, Class Senate, and Club Senate. Each member is elected by the student body at the end of the academic year.
Student Orientation Leader
Student Orientation Leaders (SOLs) are student staff members who assist first-year students with the transition into college life. Through interaction and activities, their goal is to help new students feel that they matter, they belong, and they can succeed at Soka.
Resident Assistant
Resident Assistants are students who serve as paraprofessional Residential Life staff members during the academic year, contributing to Residential Life’s mission: To support residents in cultivating a meaningful living-learning community and providing a purposeful experiential program fostering student leadership.
Student Sustainability Educator
The Student Sustainability Educator’s role is to foster a culture of care between people and the Earth through the promotion of sustainable living strategies and connecting Soka students to programs focused on issues of sustainability. They are also members of the Campus Sustainability Committee, representing students on university-wide initiatives.
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee consists of student-athlete leaders who are a voice for student-athletes, advocating for student-athlete well-being, academic excellence, personal development, and community involvement.
